Newcastle New Deal for Communities

The Open Council are proud to announce that things are changing in Newcastle's West End. Local projects are helping to crack down on crime, improve our schools and help residents into jobs; other schemes are tackling health issues, improving homes and making the area more attractive.

It's all part of Newcastle New Deal for Communities - an ambitious programme which is changing the face of Arthur's Hill, Cruddas Park, Rye Hill and Elswick.

It's backed by central Government and Newcastle City Council, but this is no ordinary Government initiative. At the heart of New Deal for Communities you will find local residents taking the lead in changing our community's life for the better.

Our projects have already helped over 1000 people into jobs, put a dozen extra bobbies on the beat, and upgraded Elswick and Nunsmoor Parks. And that's just a few examples.

And there's more to come, with a Neighbourhood Renewal Area giving a facelift to streets in Arthur's Hill, Elswick Triangle and nearby Wingrove, while plans are also taking shape for a multi-million pound redevelopment of Cruddas Park. Isn't life wonderful!
