Davey witnessed the incident late on Saturday night: "I saw a group of eight middle aged men hanging around by the message board. They were loud and rowdy, I think they were waiting for a bus, I didn't think anything of it but then suddenly they all started hurling missiles at Santa. I went down there next morning and that's when I got these pictures. It was my son who suggested I send them to the Open Council."

Davey noticed that some members have cast their vote by brutally stoning a message about santa claus while leaving a message of popular local lass, Cheryl Cole, completely unscathed.

The event which occurred on the double message board on Barrack Road has left Open Council sociologists baffled. Spokesman Walter Barnham says: "It is very rare to see serious vandalism of this kind dished out in such a calculated fashion, it shows just how protective local people are of Cheryl Cole."
